Mubarak Bala the Nigerian activist who went public on Facebook making comments centered around the comparison between the revered Islamic Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and Christian prophets has been confirmed arrested by the Kaduna State Police Command fir breaching the sharia law.
On Monday, 27th April 2020, Bala took to Facebook with a post stating that “There’s no difference between prophet TB Joshua (S.A.W) of Lagos and Muhammadu (A.S.) of Saudi Arabia, it is better for our Nigeria to be terrorism,”
A subsequent post read that “Whoever believes religion has been duped – If you can’t take blasphemy against Islam, criticism of its doctrines, this page is not for you. I have not even started ooo.”
As expected, Mubarak Bala’s posts which were referred to as blasphemy, met the fury of several Islamic followers and there were threats of arrest for blasphemy. This, however, did not hold Bala back, as he claimed that those threats were from ‘morons’ who should know better.
True to the threats, the activist and president of the Humanist Association of Nigeria; Mubarak Bala was arrested by the police at his residence in Kaduna State yesterday on the grounds of blasphemy.
We are unsure of the particular police station he is In, but the options are Kaduna and kano custody.
The interesting twist to the story is the fact that this is not Bala’s first case of blasphemy by government and private citizens.
In June 2014, he was paraded as a psychiatric patient and held up at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital by government officials on the grounds of a “personality change” because he had become an atheist despite being raised in a Muslim family.
