With everything gone virtual, the Prom celebration for High school seniors in the US will not be left out. They have tagged it the virtual prom 2020.
As a result of the pandemic, and the social-distancing rules that has come with it, On Friday, May 22 the high school ritual will be gracing online waves.
The initiative to take the event online and at least give the 2020 set of high school leavers a somewhat feel of Prom was introduced by the former first lady Michelle Obama, in partnership with When We All Vote, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization for which Michelle Obama is a co-chair, to increase voter participation in every election.
The class of 2020 is a peculiar set indeed, most of their graduation milestones were either postponed, or moved online, and now, the virtual prom 2020! The prom is going virtual too!!
This make-shift event promises to be a great make-up for the traditional prom event.
The 2020 Prom challenge was the trigger factor behind virtual party.
The challenge which was initiated before the social distancing. It gained popularity with Mrs. Obama’s participation in February, when she shared a photograph of her own prom in 1982. Her photograph was shared on Twitter and included a link to a form that encouraged students to take part in the prom challenge.
The event will feature winners from the MTV’s “Prom-athon,” challenge with several celebrity appearances, and exclusive performances. It promises to be a music-filled experience full of exciting surprises. The 20 winning high schools that will be in attendance are in states across the country, including California, Michigan, Texas and North Carolina.
